The Mental Health Court (MHC) is a collaboration between the Wood County Circuit Court Judges Gebert and Brazeau , Wood County Human Services Department (WCHD) and CW Solutions. MHC is problem-solving diversion court to support the increasing needs of those with mental health challenges who are involved with the criminal justice system.

MHC a multi-disciplinary approach to improve the response to the criminal justice system for those who have severe and persistent mental illness. A team consisting of the courts (BR II and BR IV), mental health system, law enforcement, and the Department of Corrections  work cooperatively to identify participants and provide intensive case management that is person-centered and recovery-focused. MHC consists of a specialized court docket which employs a problem-solving approach to court proceedings instead of more traditional court processes for those with substantial mental health concerns. This program is judicially supervised and incorporates community-based treatment plans for each defendant which the MHC team designs and implements.

MHC is a voluntary program that promotes stability and prosocial behavior. A case manager works closely with participants to promote self-sufficiency, empower participants to establish a healthy lifestyle and break the cycle of entering the criminal justice system.
