We have a current opening for two Truancy Case Manager positions for the newly created Truancy Prevention and Opportunity Program in Wood County, a collaboration between the Wood County Human Services Department and CW Solutions. These positions are located in Wisconsin Rapids.
The Case Manager is an integral member of the Youth Services and Prevention Services team. A Truancy Prevention and Opportunity Program (TPOP) Case Manager assists children, youth and families in overcoming obstacles to obtaining regular school attendance and academic achievement through intensive comprehensive strengths-based programming; and help to prevent entry into the Child Welfare and or Youth Justice Systems. The TPOP program provides a comprehensive, intensive, early intervention services for children and youth exhibiting high absenteeism and truancy behaviors.
The tiered intervention system is intended to rapidly respond to children and youth who are exhibiting signs of absenteeism and work intensively to eliminate the barriers they are experiencing by bridging the gap between home, school and community. The TPOP Case Manager is responsible for working closely with school officials, Human Services Administration, Social Workers and Municipal and Circuit Court officials.
The TPOP Case Manager provides a system of care that is child-centered with the needs of the child and family dictating the types and mix of services provided. The primary focus is on improving educational engagement and attendance at school.
To be effective, the TPOP Case Manager works with children in their homes, school and communities, incorporating the entire family in the wraparound process.
This position performs ongoing, supportive case management services to youth ages 10-16 who are truant or at risk of becoming truant. The worker is responsible for mentorship, technique-building and family systems case management for program participants, working collaboratively with participants to develop a strengths-based plan that works to assist them in attending school consistently, increasing resiliency, and developing positive interactions within the school setting.
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Provide holistic and comprehensive services to all participants. Including: intake, assessment, goal setting, progress monitoring, advocacy and referral
- Develop, maintain and follow goal plan for each child/youth served
- Set realistic expectations and goals based on each child’s strengths, talents, abilities and needs
- Provide enrichment resources and activities which include opportunities for cultural awareness, diversity and community service
- Developing positive and collaborative relationships with school staff including, teachers, counselors, aides and administrators
- Maintain accurate and detailed accounts of all participation in the program and school attendance using internal tracking systems
- Develop relationships with alcohol and other drug abuse prevention programs for continued relationship building and referral information
- Develop partnerships with community resources and agencies for community building and support of program participants. Work collaboratively with providers to provide successful outcomes for participants
- Teach life skills and healthy habits to contribute both to basic development and learning, and to contribute to building positive self-esteem
- Develop a talent/skill/area of interest with each child to help develop positive self-esteem and experience growing confidence
- Engage the family in developing consistent routines that provide the support needed to improve school attendance.
Education: Required: Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Worker, Sociology, or related field that provides the necessary skills to meet the expectations of the position.
Experience: Preferred - experience working with youth and families to support their stated goals.
Key Knowledge: Required – in addition to the Essential Skills, knowledge of human behavior, motivation, crisis intervention, family and group dynamics, money management, interviewing, and assessment skills.
Transportation: Required - This position requires the staff member to hold a valid driver’s license, maintain valid driver’s insurance and use their personal and legally licensed vehicle. Mileage reimbursement is provided for all business-related travel.
Clearance: Required - Must pass a criminal background check to be cleared to work with children and families.
Basic Skills: Required - Basic everyday living skills, including the ability to understand and follow directions, ability to read, write and do basic math. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with individuals and groups.

- Proven background experience in working with children who may express heightened trauma response.
- Ability to navigate between family experiences and child behavior with strength-based approach.
- Strong vision of hope and positive expectation and outlook when engaging all parties involved.
- Schedule is non-traditional, but flexible and based around clients’ availability. Since case managers are heavily involved with each family, long hours may be required
